the difference between machines and life

machines are all about allocation of finite resources - use up a resource and there is one left to manage... it's always draining.

with humans, the more you do something, the more you can keep doing it. life feeds on itself, and left on its own, grows exponentially.

Lamers

Well, now that I know I have an audience, maybe I should post something here tonight.

This post is not brilliant

Everyone is willfully ignorant about something. Worrying about one's religion is similar to worrying about one's fashion. They're on that side because it works for them, and they wouldn't be any happier on your side. You get to know people by revealing yourself to them. A personality of avoidance is a personality of addiction. Need more zen...

This week's South Park, "Tsst," was brilliant.

Brain pairs

People are imitators. One tends to imitate one's environment.
Cause and effect are pairs in the brain. They are both keyed. To break the connection, you have to remove both ends of the double-ended pointer.
This explains irrational addictions and fears.

Getting out of here

I think it's finally time to start cleaning up some of these messes that have been here since the day I moved in a few years back.
I think my just-in-time method of item management was a failure. It's like that time in Serpent Isle where I just had to stop for 45 minutes do a full item reorganization. Garbage collection is not a good interactive experience.

New seasons

I just watched the first episode of the sixth season of The Sopranos. I was attracted to the show in its first season for dark humour. The gangsters are going around shooting guys, but it was kinda fun, they'd get drunk and fuck some chicks, get into amusing scenarios, it was serious, but funny. I was entertained.
Now the sixth season is the most depressing thing I've ever seen. One guy is all happy he'll be going on vacation, and then NO! Never going on vacation again! He let down his whole family, and he kills himself. The only funny bit in the show was when he pisses on the floor after hanging himself. Everyone's being ratted out to the feds, even an old guy everyone respected, who has a spontaneous brain annurism or something and dies. Uncle Jun is going senile and shoots Tony, then hides in a closet and cries. Carmela gets a new car and shows it off to all her friends, until one of them has a better car and Carmela realizes how meaningless it all is. Every character starts by getting their hopes up, and then pummelled, dreams dashed and soul destroyed. What a horrible show.
I still want to find out Tony's fate, but I'm just not entertained by the rest anymore.

Now to watch the brand new South Park to cleanse myself.

Music theory

Music theory could have been taught as showing the relationships of frequencies of notes. You could probably derive the scales with some simple math. Then they would make sense, instead of being useless memorization.
