New seasons

I just watched the first episode of the sixth season of The Sopranos. I was attracted to the show in its first season for dark humour. The gangsters are going around shooting guys, but it was kinda fun, they'd get drunk and fuck some chicks, get into amusing scenarios, it was serious, but funny. I was entertained.
Now the sixth season is the most depressing thing I've ever seen. One guy is all happy he'll be going on vacation, and then NO! Never going on vacation again! He let down his whole family, and he kills himself. The only funny bit in the show was when he pisses on the floor after hanging himself. Everyone's being ratted out to the feds, even an old guy everyone respected, who has a spontaneous brain annurism or something and dies. Uncle Jun is going senile and shoots Tony, then hides in a closet and cries. Carmela gets a new car and shows it off to all her friends, until one of them has a better car and Carmela realizes how meaningless it all is. Every character starts by getting their hopes up, and then pummelled, dreams dashed and soul destroyed. What a horrible show.
I still want to find out Tony's fate, but I'm just not entertained by the rest anymore.

Now to watch the brand new South Park to cleanse myself.

Music theory

Music theory could have been taught as showing the relationships of frequencies of notes. You could probably derive the scales with some simple math. Then they would make sense, instead of being useless memorization.

Life and technology are different forms of the same thing

Consciousness is the technology of genes, and genes are the technology of chemistry. It's all one exponential process.

Strange fingers from other dimensions form subatomic particles. Subatomic particles combine to create atoms. Atoms combine to create molecules. Molecules develop the technology of DNA. DNA develops the technology of consciousness. As one of the few conscious species, and the only one with opposable thumbs, we are creating the next technology: Information technology, living in engineered constructs of the lowest levels. It will succeed us. And it will embody our spirit.
