To all Iron Maiden fans

And, to all fans of Iron Maiden solos, you have to check out Megadeth's Rust In Peace.

I have a deadlock in my task scheduler

Yeah, so I haven't been posting much. I'll probably write about that in a future blog entry. If I get around to it.

I don't like making hard decisions. So when I have to make a decision, I research it as much as possible first. For some domains, when you understand it thoroughly, all decisions within that domain become easy. That's why I haven't bought a house. I'd like to do it myself, but I feel overwhelmed, so I do nothing. But at least that is a solvable problem.

If I have important stuff to do, I try to avoid doing unimportant stuff so I have as much time as possible to do the important stuff. But then if I don't do the important stuff for some other reason, I end up doing nothing. It's a deadlock problem in my task scheduler.

Ok, I really need to go wash the fucking dishes...

Quiet night

I was just reading this long essay about someone's experiences with starting to use pot regularly, and it hit close to home. http://www.fullmoon.nu/book/chap.php?id=c11
Shit that's a long article.

I was also just thinking about how good the Folder Size cache is. I was probably high half the time I worked on it, so I forgot about a lot of the bookkeeping that goes on in the Folder objects. Nice to remind myself that I can make complex, efficient, readable code. Even if it takes a few years. :)

I'll be out playing various games with various people for the next three nights... woo hoo! And I'll play some Half-Life 2 now. That game kicks ass.

Terence McKenna

I've been reading/listening to Terence McKenna lately. He was a major advocate of psychedelic drugs, and an entertaining and thought-provoking speaker, with many insightful ideas, and many ideas where he seems to take unjustified leaps of logic.
Here are some quotes: http://deoxy.org/t_quotes.htm
Examples I like: "Imagine if the Japanese had won World War II, taken over America, and introduced an insidious drug which caused the average American to spend six and a half hours a day consuming enemy propaganda. But this is what was done. Not by the Japanese, by ourselves. This is television."
"Culture, which we put on like an overcoat, is the collectivized consensus about what sort of neurotic behaviors are acceptable."
So he is an observant, smart guy. However, he also believes that when you take hallucinogenic drugs, your consciousness actually goes and visits living creatures in other dimensions. Because he can't imagine anything else that it could be. Hmm..... what a dumbass. :P

I actually made a blog

Well I finally did it - signed up for a blog with one of these fancy automated things.
I have various thoughts about things throughout the day and night, and then usually can't remember them later. Mainly there's no one to tell them to, so they disappear into the ether rather than add to something. It'll be a one-sided conversation; I won't have to worry about arguing someone else. :)
Maybe some ranting, maybe some ego-stroking, just some random thoughts. I'll try not to go back and overthink what I'm writing, so don't expect the truth all the time.

Test

My first post is, of course, a test.
